Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Accident

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Douglas Fir Drive (Galena Forest area) on Monday, November 7, 2011 at approximately 9:14 pm.

Upon arrival, deputies located a blue colored Ford F-250 truck off the roadway positioned against a large tree on Douglas Fir Drive, approximately 300 yards from the Mount Rose Highway. Deputies made contact with four occupants, three males and one female all with substantial injuries. The driver, Justin Sigstand an 18 year old Reno resident and two occupants were transported to a local hospital for further examination and treatment. One occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) was called out to continue the investigation.

The accident investigation is ongoing; however, preliminary reports indicate speed and alcohol may be contributing factors.

Due to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), we are prohibited from releasing information on the three juveniles involved in this accident and their medical conditions thereafter. The deceased person’s family has respectfully requested that their child’s name not be released and the Sheriff’s Office will be honoring their wishes.
