Update on Sparks Homicide

Sparks, NV….On 10-11-11 an autopsy was completed on the victim in this case. The preliminary cause of death has been determined to be strangulation. Michael Giesbrecht, the suspect arrested driving the victim’s vehicle in West Wendover is a suspect in the case but has not been charged with Homicide at this time. Giesbrecht is being held in West Wendover on the local charges of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Possession of Stolen Credit Cards. He is also being held on a Fugitive Warrant out of Idaho.

The victim in the case has not been positively identified as of the time. The Sparks Police Department continues to investigate the case and will update with new information as it becomes available.

On October 9, 2011 shortly after 9 PM Sparks Police Department officers responded to 565 Sparks Blvd. #144 regarding a 911 call. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lone occupant of the apartment deceased.

Initial investigation revealed the decedent’s vehicle was missing. Sparks Police requested assistance from law enforcement to attempt to locate the missing vehicle.

In the early morning hours of October 10, 2011 West Wendover Police located the vehicle driven by Michael Giesbrecht, age 38, of Sparks. Giesbrecht is a wanted fugitive from Idaho. He was arrested and booked in the Elko County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Fugitive from Justice warrant (total bail $115,000).
