From new life and new ideas, to simply finding new meaning or passing on knowledge to others, “Regeneration” is all about creating and celebrating something that is new for the fourteen artists participating in this year’s Wild Women art exhibition at the Wilbur D. May Museum.
The many meanings to the concept of regeneration is the inspiration behind this year’s exhibit and sale which will be held at the museum during the weekend of November 4 – 6, 2011.
“We have each taken the word regeneration and made it our own,” the artists’ statement says. “We as a group choose to explore the creative, setting our goals in a positive direction. The effort in going back to our individual skills and breathing new life into what we do brings comfort and celebration in knowing that each of us uses our own hands and our own skills to create works of beauty.”
This year’s artists include Jimmie Benedict – quilted, pieced and embroidered clothing, Kathleen Durham – stories in cloth and clay, Gretchen Ericson – baskets, Claudia Knous – felt sculptures, vessels and scarves, Kristen Frantzen Orr – art glass beads, Barbara Glynn Prodaniuk – clay , Gail Rappa – jewelry, Sidne Teske – soft pastel paintings, Barbara Uriu – jewelry, Pat Wallis – paintings on copper; and Karel Hendee – silk paintings. The exhibit also features guest artists Lara Alberti and Ron Arthaud.
Several of the artists will participate in a demonstration day at the May Museum from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22. Admission is free and the public is invited.
