.A STRONG AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL DROP INTO THE WESTERN U.S.
TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY…BRINGING STRONG WINDS AND MODERATE TO
LOCALLY HEAVY VALLEY RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW TO THE REGION.
HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION WILL FALL TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY…
WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA.
THOSE PLANNING TRAVEL OVER THE SIERRA THIS WEEK SHOULD PREPARE
FOR WINTER CONDITIONS NOW TO AVOID BEING CAUGHT OFF GUARD BY THIS

TUESDAY EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING.

* TIMING: HEAVIEST MOUNTAIN SNOW LATE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO
WEDNESDAY MORNING…WITH SNOW SHOWERS CONTINUING INTO
WEDNESDAY EVENING.

* POSSIBLE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: UP TO 10 INCHES ABOVE 7000 FEET
ALONG THE SIERRA CREST…WITH A FEW INCHES POSSIBLE AT LAKE
LEVEL.

* WINDS: SOUTHWEST WINDS 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH.
RIDGE GUSTS UP TO 90 MPH.

* SNOW LEVELS: 8500 FEET FALLING TO 6000 FEET BY WEDNESDAY
MORNING.

* IMPACTS: SLICK AND SNOW COVERED ROADS WILL MAKE TRAVEL
HAZARDOUS IN THE SIERRA…ESPECIALLY OVER PASSES WHERE ROAD

STRONG LOW PRESSURE CURRENTLY LOCATED IN THE EASTERN PACIFIC WILL
MOVE ACROSS THE WESTERN U.S. THIS WEEK…BRINGING WINDY CONDITIONS
AND MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES TO MUCH OF NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA AND
WESTERN NEVADA.

LATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON…WINDS WILL INCREASE AHEAD OF THE MAIN
STORM WITH POTENTIAL IMPACTS TO TRAVEL ON AREA HIGHWAYS. THE
STRONGEST WINDS ARE MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND
TUESDAY NIGHT…WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR GUSTS ABOVE 50 MPH IN LOWER
ELEVATIONS AND LOCALLY STRONGER GUSTS IN WIND PRONE AREAS.

ON WEDNESDAY…A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE REGION WITH
HIGHS ONLY REACHING THE 50S IN LOWER ELEVATIONS WITH GUSTY WINDS
MAKING IT FEEL EVEN COLDER. A PERIOD OF STEADY RAIN IS EXPECTED TO
MOVE ACROSS THE REGION WEDNESDAY MORNING…WITH SHOWERS POSSIBLE
THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY.

ON THURSDAY…BRISK AND CHILLY WEATHER WILL PERSIST WITH TEMPERATURES
AGAIN ONLY REACHING THE 50S IN LOWER ELEVATIONS. BEFORE THE STORM
SYSTEM DEPARTS TO THE EAST…ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWERS WILL BE
POSSIBLE.
