WASHOE COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

Below are highlights of some of the actions taken by the Board of County Commissioners at its September 13, 2011 meeting
National Day of Service and Remembrance. The County Commission issued a resolution recognizing September 11 as a day of solemn commemoration and a day to come together as a Nation. Ten years after the attacks on our country killed nearly 3,000 innocent Americans and foreign nationals, thousands of men and women in the United States Armed Forces remain on the frontlines vigilant in their defense of our country. The Commission encourages all citizens to join together and forever hold September 11 as a special day in our hearts and minds.Family Day-A Day to Eat with Your Children. The County Commission recognized the importance of family dinners by proclaiming the 4th Monday of every September as Family Day- A Day to Eat with Your Children. Family meals are the perfect time to talk to your children and to listen to what’s on their mind while helping keep them substance free.

The National Center on Addition and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University has found that the more often children and teenagers eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink and use illegal drugs.
