The National Center on Addition and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University has found that the more often children and teenagers eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink and use illegal drugs.
Washoe County Playground Rehabilitation Project Construction Bid Awarded to Local Company. The Washoe County Commission awarded a $414,015 Base Bid for the rehabilitation of playgrounds at Lazy 5, Arrowcreek and South Valleys Regional Parks to Garden Shop Landscaping Division. It is anticipated that four jobs will be sustained in our local market.
The project is funded with a $224,744 reimbursable federal grant, a County match of $224,744 that was derived from a combination of Residential Construction Tax Funds and a $9,000 in-kind match form existing staff allocations. The playground rehabilitation project will be completed by the end of the year. . Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling and Assistance. The Board of County Commissioners accepted two sub-grant awards, totaling $142,308, enabling the Washoe County Senior Law Project to provide a variety of services to homeowners at risk of foreclosure.
The $64,724 sub-grant award from the Nevada Department of Business and Industry Housing Division for the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling program will help the Washoe County Senior Law Project serve over 130 clients in the coming months. Since mid-2008 through funding from the same program, 550 clients have received representation with their loan servicers and more than 80% of those avoided foreclosure. An additional 220 clients have received assessment and one-on-one counseling.
The sub-grant agreement with Nevada Legal Services in the amount of $77,584 will allow the Senior Law Project to negotiate loan modifications on behalf of homeowners and represent them at various legal hearing.
William Weber Appointed to Regional Planning Commission. The Washoe County Commission voted to appoint Washoe County Planning Commissioner William Weber to the Regional Planning Commission for a three-year term.
