The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call from a residence in the 3800 block of Petrel Court in Reno, Nevada (Cold Springs area) at approximately 4:08 a.m. The reporting party stated someone was trying to forcefully enter his residence through a window and that he was armed.
At approximately 4:20 a.m., the first Deputy arrived and immediately advised shots were being fired from within the residence. At 4:22 a.m., Deputies advised more shots were being discharged. While on scene, Deputies could hear a person yelling at unknown subjects that he didn’t want to hurt anyone. Deputies established a perimeter around the residence and attempted to call the person out using a loud speaker but the person refused. During this time, several more shots were heard and it was evident that the person was barricading himself. At this time, several surrounding neighbors began calling in reports of multiple shots being fired in the area.
At approximately 5:12 a.m., the person came out of the residence unarmed and surrendered himself to Sheriff’s Office personnel. Deputies successfully cleared the property and no additional persons were located. Also, there was no indication of a forced entry into the residence. A small caliber handgun and multiple spent casings were located in the residence. No one was injured during this incident.
The resident was identified as Leonard Cussimonio, 24 year old Cold Springs resident. Cussimonio was arrested and transported to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility, where he was booked without incident. Cussimonio was charged with possession of a firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol (M), aiming/discharging a firearm where persons might be endangered (GM), discharging a firearm at and/or into a structure (M), and discharging a firearm in a congested area (M). Cussimonio’s bail is set at $4,885.
