UPDATE

In a collaborative effort, the Sparks Police Department Crime Suppression Unit, Washoe County Sheriff’s Detectives and All Threats All Crimes Task Force were conducting surveillance in parks and parking areas in their respective jurisdictions in response to a string of vehicle burglaries occurring throughout the Truckee Meadows. The suspects broke windows and stole purses, and then used the victims’ credit cards at various locations immediately following the thefts. Following the release of surveillance video from a local store, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office preliminarily identified the male suspect as Edward Perkins (Bk 11-13478).

On August 03, 2011, in the afternoon, Detectives with the Sparks Police Department Crime Suppression Unit observed Perkins at a location within the City of Sparks where they were conducting surveillance. Perkins was riding with a female passenger, Cassandra Kissel (Bk 11-13471), on a stolen motorcycle and placed under arrest.

Perkins and Kissel were booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility by the Sparks Police Department on multiple charges. Washoe County Detectives booked additional charges on Perkins and Kissel for various counts of burglary, grand larceny, fraudulent use of credit cards, and obtaining money under false pretenses. Perkins’ bail is set at $64,285 and Kissel’s is set at $34,395.

Follow-up investigation into other burglaries Perkins and Kissel may be responsible for are being conducted by both agencies.

Vehicle Burglary Suspects Casing Parks, Trails, and Various Parking Lots in the Truckee Meadows – August 2, 2011

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division is investigating a trend of forced entry vehicle burglaries being reported at local parks, trails, and various parking lots. These suspects are not only hoping to discover unlocked doors and/or vehicle windows; perpetrators are making entry by smashing windows.

The investigative trend shows these perpetrators to be targeting females who leave their vehicles without a purse. When entry is made, a purse is stolen and credit cards are being used a various locations. Victims reported parking their vehicles, hiding their valuables, securing doors and windows, and returning later to find they have been burglarized.

Video surveillance from a local store shows a male and female using a stolen credit card immediately after Deputies were dispatched to the actual vehicle burglary scene. The male was described as a White adult, mid to upper 30’s, bald head, large build, tattooed on forearms, driving a two-toned (black & gray) newer model Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer SUV. The female was described as a White or Hispanic adult, upper 20’s, black hair, last seen wearing floral print summer dress attire, with a large unknown tattoo on her upper right shoulder blade.
