The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) investigated a vehicle versus motorcycle traffic accident, which was initially reported to the Reno Police Department at approximately 4:28am, early Thursday morning. Reno Police Officers responded to the scene and located an injured male who had been riding a motorcycle. Reno Police Officers also located another male subject with the injured person and a Dodge sedan with left front damage. The driver of the Dodge sedan fled on foot from the scene. The passenger of the Dodge sedan stayed on scene and rendered care to the injured motorcycle rider. It was determined that the collision occurred on a westbound traffic lane of North McCarran Blvd but the motorcycle was located in the dirt area next to the eastbound traffic lane. Due to the accident scene encompassing both directions of travel, traffic controls were established at North McCarran Blvd and North Virginia Street for westbound traffic and North McCarran Blvd and Keystone Avenue for eastbound traffic. REMSA paramedics arrived and transported the injured 34 year old Male Reno Resident to a local hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries to his feet and pelvis area. The passenger that stayed on scene was not injured and assisted in the investigation. At approximately 6:15am, Reno Police Officers advised that the accident scene was actually within the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction; therefore, Sheriff’s Office Patrol Units and M.A.I.T. responded to continue the investigation. The two intersections where traffic controls were established were manned by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). M.A.I.T. completed the scene investigation just before 10am and both directions of travel were open without controls. The investigation revealed that the motorcycle rider was rear ended by the Dodge sedan. The Dodge sedan was traveling well over the posted 50 MPH speed limit and alcohol was a contributing factor as well. The suspected driver of the Dodge sedan was identified as Ehimare Ogbebor and later located at a nearby residence. Ehimare Ogbebor was arrested and transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the following charges; Felony Driving Under the Influence Causing Substantial Bodily Harm, Felony Reckless Driving Causing Substantial Bodily Harm, Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Injury (Hit and Run), Duty to Give Information and Render Aid, and Driving on a Suspended Drivers License. Ehimare Ogbebor’s bail is set at $35,075. The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone who may have observed and/or residents nearby who may have heard the collision prior to 4:28am can contact the Patrol Division at 328-3350 or remain anonymous by calling Secret Witness at 322-4900.
