Silver Dollar Car Classic in Carson, Aug. 5-7

CARSON CITY, Nev. — With the rev of mighty V-8 engines and enough polished chrome to require a good pair of sunglasses, the annual Silver Dollar Car Classic is the capital city’s all-out celebration of the American automobile.

From Aug. 5-7, Mills Park in Carson City turns into a mecca of some of the finest hot rods ever made, with more than 400 restored, tricked-out and souped-up cars and trucks on display under the canopy of dozens of shade trees.

The event brings classic car lovers by the thousands to the capital city annually where enthusiasts and owners swap stories about how they maintained their vintage cars and what kind of work went into them. From engines to parts to old time rock ‘n roll and great food by dozens of vendors, the annual show provides anyone who loves cars a place to see some of the best in the West.

Events begin Thursday night at 6 p.m. with a kick-off party at the Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Carson City. The party for car exhibitors features plenty of food and music. Call the Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau at 800-638-2321 or 775-687-7410 for details.

The official show begins Friday at noon with registration at the Carson City Nugget. In the evening, all ages – especially the young at heart, are invited as the fun continues at the Carson Nugget’s west parking lot for a heel kickin’ dancing to Route 66 band, food, drinks and Show ‘n Shine.

All all-out breakfast feed Saturday from 8 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., hosted by the Dayton Kiwanis get the day off to a rolling start at Mills Park, with an all-day Show ‘n Shine to follow. Judging runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a Canyon ride beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday starts again at 8 a.m. with another Kiwanis mouthwatering breakfast followed by a poker run from 8 a.m. to noon. Barbecue lunch for the public starts at 11 a.m. with awards beginning at 1 p.m. with a nominal fee.
