Sand Harbor, NV…On Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at approximately 3:30 pm, the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a head‐on accident State Route 28 approximately 4 miles south of Sand Harbor. Preliminary investigation reveals that a green 2000 Ford F350 pickup was southbound on SR28 heading away from Incline, Nevada. A semi truck pulling a dump trailer was northbound on SR28 heading toward Incline, Nevada.
A red 2000 Ford Taurus was northbound on SR28 directly behind the semi truck and trailer. The green Ford pickup drifted across the double yellow center line, into the northbound travel lane where it struck trailer on the left side at the rear axles. The red Taurus pulled to the right shoulder and stopped to avoid the green Ford pickup. The green Ford pickup struck the red Ford Taurus head‐on, forcing the Taurus backward and off of the roadway.
The four occupants of the Taurus needed to be extricated from the vehicle. Two male occupants in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The two female passengers in the vehicle were transported by ground ambulance to Incline, Nevada where they were transferred to a Care Flight helicopter and were taken to Renown Medical Center with critical injuries.
There were four occupants in the Ford pickup. The driver had minor injuries and needed no medical treatment. The three passengers were taken to Renown Medical Center by ground ambulance for non‐ life threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi truck/trailer was not injured.

Passenger: Abel Najar of Gardnerville
Two passengers were male juveniles

Driver: 57 year old male with a New York driver’s license who’s name is not being
released until next of kin is notified.
Right front passenger: 59 year old male from Reno who’s name is not being released until next of kin is notified. Passenger: 57 year old Lori Brown of Reno, Nevada Passenger: 57 year old Rhonda Farlow of Reno, Nevada
The driver of the semi truck/trailer is 54 year old Mark Thorpe of Yerington, Nevada. The semi truck is owned and operated by Cinderlite Trucking out of Carson City, Nevada.
SR28 was closed from the junction of Highway 50 to Sand Harbor from 3:30pm till 8:35pm.
At this time, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident.
