Since 2007, the Assessor has recognized annual declines in property values throughout the county. The adjustments to assessed value are provided for in California tax law, often referred to as Proposition 8 adjustments. This year, of the 160,528 assessments on the secured roll, 46% will be noticed that their property tax assessments were reviewed for valuation as of January 1, 2011 and have been assessed below their established Proposition 13 value. These adjustments are temporary and will be reviewed on an annual basis.

Throughout this month, property owners will be mailed a notice of their property’s assessed value. Online property values are also available at the Assessor’s Website. Property tax reviews are conducted at no cost to the property owner and may be initiated by filling out a one-page Decline in Value review form, available online by clicking this link: Decline in Value. Property owners can contact assessor staff at (530) 889-4300 for residential property inquiries or (916) 543-3948 for commercial/industrial assessment questions. Property owners may also discuss their assessment questions in person at the Assessor’s main office located at 2980 Richardson Drive, Auburn, in the Finance Administration Building.
