Waste Management Launches First Residential Green Waste Recycling Pilot Program

Incline Village, NV — Waste Management of Nevada (WM) announced today the launch of a residential green waste recycling pilot program for Incline Village and Crystal Bay residents.  The program, in partnership with IVGID Waste Not, kicked-off July 11, and is designed to assess the feasibility and community interest in an ongoing green waste recycling and collection program.  This pilot is the first residential green waste recycling program in the State of Nevada.

“Waste Management is committed to providing environmental solutions that reduce our impact on the environment, and reduce the amount of material being sent to local landfills by extracting value from those materials,” said Justin Caporusso, WM spokesperson.  “Providing a solution for green waste allows our customers to participate in our sustainability efforts.”

How it works:

  1. Residents purchase approved green bags (recyclable) from Tahoe Supply Company or Ace Hardware
  2. Residents fill green bags (12 bag limit per collection) with vegetative yard waste (pine needles, pinecones, garden waste, brush, small twigs/branches, wood chips/bark and lawn trimmings)
  3. Residents tie the bag, and place at the curb for collection on the same day as their bi-weekly blue bag recycling collection.

The program accepts up to 12 filled green bags every other week, on the same day as recycling collection, for no additional charge.  The green waste material collected through the program will be sent to a regional biomass energy production facility, or chipped for local erosion control projects.  For more information on the program, call Waste Management at (775) 831-2971, or IVGID Waste Not at (775) 832-1284.

Program runs July 11 through Oct. 28
