On Tuesday evening, 07/12/11, deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a child-custody civil standby incident in the Johnson Lane area of Minden, NV.

As deputies were responding to the residence, they received updated information that the father of the child, 25 year-old Matthew Aymami, did not want to give custody of his minor child to the mother of the child, even though the mother possessed a court order requiring it. Matthew had threatened to harm anyone trying to remove the child from him.

Upon arrival of DCSO deputies, they learned that Matthew’s father had just arrived at the residence, and was trying to convince Matthew into cooperating with the child custody court order.

Matthew was uncooperative with his father, ultimately brandishing a firearm and threatening to shoot his father.

A struggle ensued, and Matthew’s father, with assistance of DCSO deputies, was able to take Matthew safely into custody.

No one was injured as a result of the incident, and the firearm was safely recovered.

Matthew was subsequently transported and booked into the DCSO Valley Jail for charges of Assault with Deadly Weapon, Child Abuse/ Neglect, False Imprisonment, Domestic Battery, Battery on Peace Officer and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer.

Investigation of this case is still active and on-going with DCSO Investigators and the District Attorney’s Office Special Investigator.

Matthew’s father is DCSO Captain Dave Aymami, currently assigned as the Patrol Division Commander.
