Detectives Investigate an Attempted “Car-Jacking” in Spanish Springs

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division is seeking the assistance from the public after completing a preliminary investigation of a reported attempted armed robbery, which occurred in the Spanish Springs area on June 21, 2011 at approximately 10am.

On the above date and approximate time, a 19 year old male was driving his vehicle in the area of West Calle De La Plata and Kinglet Drive when a male subject came off the sidewalk and walked in front of the vehicle. The driver slowed to avoid striking the subject and that’s when the subject removed a handgun from a front center pocket of a dark blue hooded sweatshirt. The subject pointed the handgun at the driver and began walking towards the driver’s side. When the subject cleared from the front of the vehicle, the driver drove away unharmed and called the Sheriff’s Office. The driver last saw the subject running on Kinglet Drive towards Albatross Way.

Sheriff’s Office patrol units and investigators immediately canvassed the neighborhood and followed up on potential suspects until all leads were exhausted. Now, the Detectives Division is searching for potential witnesses who may have observed the incident and are willing to provide additional information pertinent to this case. The Sheriff’s Office believes this is an isolated confrontation because no other incidents were reported prior to and/or after June 21st.

The subject was described as a Hispanic male adult in his 30’s with a thick blackmustache, approximately 5’6″ to 5’8″ tall and 180-200 lbs. The subject was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and light blue jeans.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff Office Detectives Division at 328-3320 or remain anonymous by calling Secret Witness at 322-4900.
