The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a physical disturbance on Tuesday, June 7th at approximately 9:28PM, where shots had been reportedly discharged within a residence.
When Deputies arrived, they met three victims with head injuries. The victims were reportedly beaten with a shotgun by Dan Barchenger. Deputies learned that Dan Barchenger entered an undisclosed residence on Olinghouse Road with a shotgun and became verbally abusive towards the resident’s unidentified guest. During Dan Barchenger’s verbal confrontation, he used the shotgun to strike three people. Dan Barchenger discharged a round during the altercation, which exited a window.
All victims fled the residence and began to drive away but Dan Barchenger followed closely behind in his motor vehicle. Furthermore, a victim identified Terry Barnes to have been in possession of a handgun while waiting outside the residence for Dan Barchenger. Ultimately, all victims were able to get to a safe location and lost sight of Dan Barchenger’s vehicle. Detectives were called out to continue the investigation. Evidentiary items were located, photographed, and collected from within the residence. All victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Today at approximately 10AM, the Sheriff’s Office received information that Dan Barchenger and Terry Barnes were seen in the area of Olinghouse Road. Washoe County Patrol, Motors, K9 Teams, Detectives, SWAT Team Members, and RAVEN responded to the area. The Pyramid Lake Police Department also assisted in attempting to locate the Dan Barchenger and Terry Barnes.
At approximately 12:03PM, Dan Barchenger and Terry Barnes were subsequently taken into custody without incident. They were transported and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility. Dan Barchenger has been charged with Burglary with the Use of a Deadly Weapon, three counts of Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Discharging a Firearm from a Dwelling, two counts of Child Endangerment, Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and False Imprisonment with a Weapon. His bail is set at $36,500. Terry Barnes has been charged with Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aiding and Abetting, and Possession of a Dangerous Drug without a Prescription. His bail is set at $10,000.
