(South Lake Tahoe) – Applications are now being accepted for the Leadership Lake
Tahoe program for interested current and future leaders of the South Shore. Leadership
Lake Tahoe began in 2003 with a mission of identifying and developing current and
future leaders through a comprehensive professional development program designed to
increase knowledge and awareness of the issues and challenges facing the South Shore of
Lake Tahoe. The program is an intensive ten-month experience to provide information,
strategies, contacts, and opportunities for personal and professional growth, while
creating a committed workforce that is dedicated to staying in our community. Graduates
of the program will be equipped to become leaders of the South Shore.

The Leadership task force and Chamber staff have been making presentations to a variety
of groups and businesses throughout the South Shore. As a result of these presentations
the interest in the upcoming program is very high, and interested candidates are
encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible. Scholarships may be available for
candidates whose businesses would not otherwise be able to fund the tuition of $500.

“Numerous benefits are derived by the participant, employer and community from the
LLT program. Participants develop critical leadership, marketing and business skills in
addition to developing a network of contacts in our community. Businesses receive a
low-cost (no-cost for scholarship recipients) training program that might otherwise be
unobtainable. The community benefits are many, in that candidates graduate with a
heightened sense of community and place of belonging which leads to their volunteering
to work with social service agencies, non-profits or some other sort of civic involvement.
It is our belief as we look at past graduates of the program (many who are still living and
working on the South Shore) that this program leads to a deepened sense of community
with a view to a future here rather than seeing it as a stopping off place on the career
path,” explains Chamber President and CEO “B” Gorman.

Topics to be covered during the Leadership Lake Tahoe program will include Leadership
Orientation, Government (Nevada and California; City and County), Public Education
System, Social Services and Community Resources, Tourism, Environment and
Transportation, Public Safety, Economic Development and Redevelopment, Media and
Communication and specialized leadership skills such as time management, understanding work style differences, advanced communication skills, diversity,
marketing, generational differences in the workforce and more. Additionally, participants
will take part in small group projects that will benefit the community, as well as
completing “experiential” work-related assignments.

The program will commence in September 2011 and last through June of 2012. Program
sessions will be held the second Wednesday of each month, from 8:30am-4:30pm.
Candidates should submit their applications by the deadline date of June 17th for
consideration. Applications are available from the Chamber office at 775.588.1728 or
may be downloaded from the website at www.tahoechamber.org.

Sponsorships are available to businesses interested in contributing to the Leadership
program—a great way to support the future leaders of the South Shore while getting your
organization’s name in the public eye of the community. Sponsorships are available at the
Coach Level ($250), Mentor Level ($500) or Leader Level ($1000). If you are interested
in becoming a sponsor, please contact Emily Abernathy at tahoechamber.org,
