(South Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev.) – San Francisco Forty Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh will join the celebrity-filled lineup at the American Century Championship (www.TahoeCelebrityGolf.com), July 12-17 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

In what has grown to become one of the golf tournament’s strongest fields in 22-years, Harbaugh, 47, joins a long list of pro athletes, coaches and celebrities from TV and film in this nationally-televised sports event favorite. It marks his third appearance at the event, and his first since 1998 when he finished 29th with scores of 76-81-78—234 and won $4,485. In 1997, he finished 50th shooting 79-89-80—235 and won $4,485.

Named the 49ers head coach in January, Harbaugh spent the last four seasons at Stanford, where he guided the Cardinal football program to one of the biggest turnarounds in memory, culminating in an Orange Bowl victory last fall. It was the first bowl win for the Cardinal since 1996 and the first BCS bowl conquest. The effort earned him the Woody Hayes Coach of the Year Award in 2010.

As a first round draft pick by the Chicago Bears in 1987, Harbaugh played for five teams over 15 seasons, including the Chicago Bears (1987-93), Indianapolis Colts (1994-97), Baltimore Ravens (1998), San Diego Chargers (1999-2000) and Carolina Panthers (2001). He racked up 26,288 passing yards to go along with 129 touchdown passes, while completing 2,305-of-3,918 passes in 177 career games (140 starts). He ranks in the NFL’s top-50 in two career passing categories – completions (41st) and pass attempts (45th).

More than 80 sports and entertainment superstars will converge at Edgewood Tahoe with other newcomers including Rex Ryan, the quotable New York Jets head coach; Martin Brodeur, NHL All Star of the New Jersey Devils; Deron Williams, New Jersey Nets All-Star guard; former Major League All-Stars Goose Gossage of the Yankees and Tom Glavine of the Atlanta Braves; actors Rob Morrow of television dramas Numb3rs and Northern Exposure. Returning superstars include Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo and Jerry Rice.

Last year’s foursome of second place finishers: Romo, Dallas Cowboys QB; John Smoltz, former Atlanta Braves All-Star; John Elway, NFL Hall of Famer and Jack Wagner, actor, will push defending champion and former NFL QB Billy Joe Tolliver. There’s also eight-time winner Rick Rhoden and four-time champion Dan Quinn.

The American Century Championship will award $600,000 in prize money, with the winner receiving $125,000. Scoring is based on a modified Stableford format.

Friday coverage will be re-broadcast Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. PT on Golf Channel.

Tickets are available for advance purchase online and daily at the gate. Prices are $15 each day for the Lake Tahoe Celebrity-Amateur on Tuesday, July 12, the practice round on Wednesday, July 13, and for the American Century Celebrity-Amateur on Thursday, July 14; and $25 for each tournament round, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A Season Pass for $60 provides admission for all six days of the event. Kids 10 and under are free with a paid adult. Discounted tickets for tournament rounds Friday through Sunday will be available starting June 1 at participating Raley’s, Nob Hill and Bel Air Foods supermarkets.
