Sugar Bowl’s James Lebel Podiums at Whistler. Great Performances by Local Skiers

Whistler, BC….The 2011 Whistler Cup is in the books and the local and USSA Far West athletes did will against the best 13-15 year old skiers in the world.

On Friday in Ladies Super G the Far West’s Breezy Johnson took 8th and Squaw Valley’s Marie Johnson was also in the top 20 at 18th.

For the men Sugar Bowl’s James Lebel continued his phenomenal season climbing onto the podium at 3rd in Super G following another USA skier Ryan Mooney. Squaw’s Cody Wilson skied into 7th place and Garret Driller sped into 15th to place all 3 Far West Skiers in the top 15.

Saturday was Slalom Day for the Men. Mr. Driller sped into 11th followed by James Lebel in 14th. The story of the day may have been Cody Wilson’s first run. Squaw’s Wilson was comfortably into 1st place by 3 10ths before a DNF in his second run cost him a possible slalom win at Whistler.

The Far West’s Breezy Johnson Giant Slalomed into 2nd spot on the podium behind Austria’s Marie Sporer. Squaw’s Marie Johnson skied into 30th spot.

In Sunday’s Slalom for the women the Far West’s Breezy Johnson was 11th and Squaw’s Marie Johnson was a DNF on her second run after being 30th on her 1st run. Canada took the win on their home turf.

In GS for the men on Sunday the USA put 6 skiers into the top 20 and two on the podium with Ryan Mooney in 1st and Colby Lane in 3rd. Sugar Bowl’s James Lebel was 9th and Garret Driller was 18th.

From all of us at Lakeside News we would like to congratulate the local athletes on a very impressive outing in Canada.
