RENO, Nevada – The Tahoe Rim Trail Association and REI – Reno are partnering to deliver a series of talks for an April Speakers Series at the REI-Reno store! Each Wednesday in April from 6PM to 7PM, we’ve lined up interesting and informative talks to prepare you to hike, bike, or ride the Tahoe Rim Trail this summer. Join us to learn more about the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, our exciting new “Rim to Reno” trail project, and to brush up on you backcountry navigation skills.

April 6th: “TRTA Trail Talk” – Join Tahoe Rim Trail Staff on an interactive tour that will engage your senses and introduce you to this incredible resource in our backyard. TRTA staff will present the audience with all of the exciting trail use programs, maintenance and construction projects, and volunteer opportunities in 2011. You will leave feeling as if you were really on the TRT!

April 13th: “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Hiking and Backpacking the Tahoe Rim Trail” – Join TRTA volunteer and author of the “Tahoe Rim Trail” guidebook, Tim Hauserman as he divulges the secrets of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Learn where to find water on the trail, where to photograph the best wildflowers, how to plan a backpacking trip and what shuttle options are available for day and thru-hikers.

April 20th: “Navigating in the Backcountry” – Are you interested in learning the principles of navigation from an experienced teacher? Or are you just a little rusty with your compass skills? Either way, this presentation is for you! Join REI navigation guru, Dave Hess and learn the fundamentals of backcountry navigation and get the skills to keep yourself “found” on the Tahoe Rim Trail this summer.

April 27th: “TRTA Rim to Reno Project” – In an effort to connect the Tahoe Rim Trail to Southwest Reno, the TRTA is joining forces with the US Forest Service and the Great Basin Institute to construct 25 miles of single track trail passing through Mt. Rose Wilderness. Join the TRTA and REI for this informative presentation and learn how you can be part of this momentous undertaking!
