Now is the Time to Control Yellow Starthistle

Due to popular demand, a second Yellow starthistle control workshop has been scheduled for March 11, 2011 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the El Dorado County Administrative Building C (Planning Commission Room), 2850 Fairlane Court in Placerville. Landowners and managers will learn about mechanical, cultural and chemical control methods to control Yellow starthistle plus plant biology and growth development. Farmers and ranchers will also learn techniques specific to controlling Yellow starthistle in orchard and vineyard settings. There is still time this season to prepare and execute a Yellow starthistle control plan, which might include the use of herbicide treatments that are most effective when applied at the early stages of plant development in winter and early spring. Registration for this free workshop is recommended to make sure you have a reserved seat at this popular event. Registration is available online at http://ucanr.org/ystworkshop3-11-11 or by calling Nancy Starr at University of California Cooperative Extension (530) 621-5503. This workshop is presented by the El Dorado County Invasive Weeds Management Group, University of California Cooperative Extension and the El Dorado County Agriculture Department.
