West Wendover, Nev. • A Nevada sheriff’s detective says a body found in a shallow grave in the desert near the Utah border is likely that of a teenager who disappeared while walking home from her high school on Thursday.
Detective Cpl. Jim Carpenter of the Elko County Sheriff’s Office said the body uncovered Sunday west of West Wendover is believed to be that of Micaela “Mickey” Costanzo, 16. She disappeared from the Nevada gambling town on Thursday.
More than 100 volunteers helped search for Costanzo on Saturday. A searcher discovered the freshly dug grave about five miles west of the town, and police set up tents and worked at the site on Sunday.
Costanzo was last seen leaving West Wendover High School on Thursday evening.
