South Lake Tahoe, Ca…At Tueday’s City Council Meeting the Council Proclaimed February 22, 2011 “Spay Day”. The Proclamation is below.
“Spay Day”
February 22, 2011
WHEREAS, the pet overpopulation issue is a concern to the South Tahoe High School members of Teens Preventing Animal Cruelty(TPAC); and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the nationally designated Spay Day USA is to educate the public on the importance of spaying and/or neutering their pets prior to the annual spring pet population explosion; and
WHEREAS, in our community as elsewhere, healthy and adoptable animals suffer because there aren’t enough homes for them; and
WHEREAS, spaying and neutering has been shown to dramatically reduce the overpopulation of pets, proving to be a wise investment to save animal lives and to save taxpayer dollars for related animal services; and
WHEREAS, local programs exist to enable South Lake Tahoe residents to afford to spay and/or neuter their pets.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the City of South Lake Tahoe that February 22, 2011, is designated “Spay Day”. The City Council hereby calls upon the people of South Lake Tahoe to observe the day by having their own pets spayed or neutered or by sponsoring the spaying or neutering of another person’s pet or of an animal in a shelter awaiting adoption.
