Local Arrest for Harming a Child ~By Sgt Jim Halsey

Minden, NV…On Tuesday, February 1st, 2011, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested 27 year-old Stephen Tribon for Child Abuse Causing Substantial Bodily Harm, a Category B felony.

The arrest came as the result of an investigation of an 11-month old girl who was brought to the Carson Valley Medical Center hospital by her mother, Amber Vanetten, and stepfather, Stephen Tribon, early Tuesday morning.

The baby was discovered to have serious injuries to her head – including a fractured skull, as well as multiple other scrapes and bruises to her body.

Subsequent investigation with Vanetten and Tribon revealed that Tribon had caused the injury to the child by slamming the child’s head into her wooden crib after becoming frustrated from “being under a lot of stress”.

Tribon then left the child crying in her crib for approximately 15-minutes, however when the baby would not quiet down, he went back to check on her. He discovered a soft spot on the child’s head where he had struck her head against the crib. He and Vanetten then brought the child to the medical center.

Tribon is being held at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Minden Jail. His bail is set at $25,000.00.
