J3 Topilano Shootout Wrap Up!

Sugar Bowl, CA…The top 20 skiers in the Western Region of the USSA are invited to the Topliano Shootout every year. This year Sugar Bowl Hosted the event.

The Topolino Shootout is an invitational event that brings together the best J3s in the West to compete in slalom and giant slalom for a chance to go to Europe. A total of 19 men and 21 ladies from California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska, and Utah took part in the competition, which included three runs of slalom on Saturday and three runs of GS on Sunday.

“Skofja Loka here I come”, says boys winner Scotty Lebel from Sugar Bowl Academy and girls winner Breezy Johnson from Rowmark Academy. After two days of top notch racing in the Sugar Bowl arena these two came out on top with strong and steady performances through 3 runs of Slalom on Saturday and 3 runs of GS on Sunday.
James “Scotty” Lebel battled with Squaw Valley’s Erik Arvidsson, in 2nd, as they pushed each other along. Other Far West men included Squaw’s Cody Wilson with a 1st place finish in the 2nd Slalom run and 4th overall, Garrett Driller 5th, Mammoth’s 1st year J3 Taylor Garcia in 9th, Squaw’s Addison Dvoracek 11th, 1st year J3 Jordan Cashman 14th, Kye Moffat 15th and Diamond Peak’s Zane Bensing in 16th.

On the ladies side it was Breezy Johnson from Rowmark Academy that will be traveling to Skofja Loka after 2 first place slalom runs and 2 first place GS runs. Top finisher for the Far West ladies was Squaw’s Audrey O’Brien in 4th place. Teammate Julia Cashell just behind in 5th, Diamond Peak’s Hannah Johnson 6th, Squaw’s first year J3 Nina O’Brien in 7th, Diana Abbott, Marie Johnson and Tenaya Standteiner in 9th, 10th and 11th, Johanna Gur 13th, Sierra Ryder 14th and Heavenly’s first year J3 Maia Bickert in 15th.
