South Lake Tahoe, CA…On 8/6/22, at approximately 8:32pm, South Lake Tahoe Dispatch received multiple 911 calls about a structure fire on the 3800 block of Figueora Ln. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and South Lake Tahoe Police responded and found a single residence fully engulfed in flames. SLT FR was able to quickly knock down the fire, contain it within the single building and prevent any spread. Nobody was inside the residence during the fire, and nobody was injured.

South Lake Tahoe Police on scene made contact with a bystander, Marlon Alvarado, 22 years old of South Lake Tahoe. Alvarado refused to leave the immediate area, continuously interrupted fire services and therefore was placed under arrest. Alvarado was transported to the jail and booked for obstructing and delaying an officer.

During the fire investigation, officers learned Alvarado lived at the house involved in the fire. After extinguishing the fire, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue stayed on scene all night to ensure it did not reignite or present any further fire danger to the public.

On 8/7/22, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Lake Valley Fire Protection District Arson investigators began investigating the origin of the fire. South Lake Tahoe Police Detectives also responded to begin an investigation.

As a result of the investigation, investigators were able to establish probable cause Alvarado intentionally set the house on fire. Investigators also had probable cause to believe Alvarado vandalized his neighbor’s vehicle. Alvarado remains in El Dorado County Jail on three felony charges: obstructing an officer, arson of an inhabited dwelling, and vandalism. His bail is set at $200,000.
