State of Nevada to host “JobFest” on December 7

Las Vegas, NV…To further the ongoing pandemic recovery effort across the Silver State, Governor Sisolak is joining with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) and the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) to host a Las Vegas “JobFest” packed with resources and support services from skills training to childcare.

The JobFest will take place on Tuesday, December 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall, 3150 Paradise Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89109.

More than 100 employers are expected to hire for thousands of jobs. Dust off your resume and dress to impress as many will be hiring on the spot.

“There is no priority more important that Nevada’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and all of our State agencies are focused on creating high-paying job opportunities and connecting Nevadans to the skills and resources they need for these jobs,” said Governor Steve Sisolak. “As we move into 2022, it’s more important than ever to help Nevadans secure gainful employment or start sharpening their skills for a new opportunity.”

Nevada is number 1 in the US for hiring and there are thousands of open jobs in Southern Nevada, according to federal statistics analyzed by DETR. Some job sectors are slower to return to full staff than others, which means now is the time for Nevadans to “Skill Up” to a new career. With partners across the state, there will be many ways to learn about financial assistance.

“There is no better time to reskill or upskill than now due to the many grant opportunities available for financial assistance. From Google certificates to childcare licensing, DETR and our partners are here to support your next career move,” said DETR Director Elisa Cafferata.

Many people who have been out of the job market for months may need to brush up on their skills. Nevada JobConnect staff and other agencies will be on hand with resources and services to get you the skills you need to stand out and step into the right job.

“When companies call us about relocating to Nevada their first questions are often about the availability of a qualified workforce,” said GOED Executive Director Michael Brown. “This is one reason we partnered with GOWINN to create nv.emsiskills.com. This online tool not only lists job openings, it also helps job seekers learn what certifications they need to meet certain qualifications.”

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services has partnered with Immunize Nevada who will be on hand providing COVID-19 vaccines and boosters, and flu shots. COVID vaccines are now approved for kids as young as 5, and many employers are now requiring vaccination as a condition of employment.

Other community partners providing resources alongside DETR and GOED at JobFest include Workforce Connections, Veteran’s Services, Nevada Partners, Culinary Health Fund, Help of Southern Nevada, Division of Welfare and Supportive Services, Dress for Success, Urban League, Legal Aid of Southern Nevada and more.
