In response to numerous requests from the public to have the introduction and first reading of a proposed animal services ordinance made at a designated time, Washoe County Commissioners have scheduled 5:30 p.m. at tomorrow’s meeting as “time certain” for agenda item # 20. This means that the item cannot be heard prior to 5:30 p.m., although it may be heard later depending upon progression of the meeting.
Tomorrow’s agenda item on this subject is the first of many opportunities the public will have to comment on proposed changes to the County’s existing animal services ordinances. The existing ordinance had not been updated since 2005, and staff proposed the changes to ensure public safety and animal protection in our community. The proposed ordinance along with a summary is posted on the county’s website at www.washoecounty.us and can be accessed by simply clicking on the “read more” link located on the photo of the dog and cat. There is also an opportunity for the public to comment on-line as well as read feedback others have posted.
In addition to the four public hearings at County Commission meetings and the on-line comment feature, the public can also attend public workshops that have been scheduled for them to meet with Animal Services staff, learn more about the ordinances and give their input. The first workshop was held this past weekend, and two more workshops are scheduled:
Tuesday, Feb. 1st from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Washoe County Health District Conference Room at the Washoe County Administrative Complex, 9th & Wells, Bldg. C.
Friday, Feb. 11th at 1:00 p.m., Washoe County Health District Conference Room at the Washoe County Administrative Complex, 9th & Wells, Bldg. C.
