Governor Sisolak Signs Legislation to Create Jobs & Invest in Nevada’s New Energy Economy

Carson City,, NV…Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak  signed two pieces of legislation from the 81st Legislative Session that will invest in Nevada’s new energy economy and infrastructure while creating thousands of jobs. The Governor was joined by Senator Chris Brooks, Assemblywoman Daniele Monroe-Moreno, Treasurer Zach Conine, Governor’s Office of Energy Director David Bobzien, Nevada Department of Transportation Director Kristina Swallow, Nevada State legislators, labor leaders, business representatives, and community and environmental organizations at the IBEW Local 357 Union Hall in Las Vegas.

Senate Bill 448 will accelerate transmission development, renewable energy and storage, bolstering Nevada’s clean energy economy, creating much-needed jobs, improving health and air quality for all Nevadans, and reaching emissions reduction targets.

“Clean energy jobs are at the center of our economic future,” said Governor Sisolak said. “I want to thank Senator Brooks for bringing this important piece of legislation forward to help secure Nevada’s place as a leader in renewable energy while helping us reach our climate goals and create jobs.”

Senate Bill 430 expands and makes structural changes to the State Infrastructure Bank. The legislation, coupled with a $75 million appropriation of general obligation bonds included the Governor’s recommended budget, will ensure the bank can begin approving important infrastructure projects throughout the state.

“This legislation makes changes to help launch our State Infrastructure Bank and will help us fund much-needed updates to our critical infrastructure, like roads and the power grid, with that climate-focused future in mind. This helps create jobs,” said Gov. Sisolak. “I want to thank Treasurer Zach Conine and his team for working with my Office on this legislation.”

Following the bill singing ceremony, Governor Sisolak participated in U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm’s Clean Energy Jobs & Justice Forum with Congressman Steven Horsford and clean energy stakeholders and advocates. The livestream can be played back on the DOE website.

Additionally, the Governor signed the following bills today, including Assembly Bill 484, which would utilize eligible federal dollars to help upgrade the DETR system, and Senate Bill 163, which provides for the issuance of special license plates to support the Divine Nine.
