WASHOE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SELECT GREG BROWER TO SERVE AS STATE SENATOR IN DISTRICT 3

After interviewing 12 candidates in an open meeting, Washoe County Commissioners unanimously selected Greg Brower to fill the District 3 State Senate vacancy left by retired Senator Bill Raggio.

Mr. Brower’s letter of interest stated that he has a, “desire to serve the people of Washoe County and the State of Nevada.” He has served as a Naval Officer and U.S. Attorney. He also served as an elected official in the Nevada State Legislature’s Assembly during the 1999 and 2001 regular sessions, and was voted as outstanding Freshman Member of Assembly after the 1999 session. During the 2001 regular session, he was elected to a leadership position within the Assembly Republican Caucus, serving as Minority Whip. He served on the Assembly’s Taxation Committee and, in 2001, on the special committee on redistricting and reapportionment.

In selecting Mr. Brower, Commissioners cited his pertinent experience and his willingness to reach across the aisle in an effort to address the daunting task before the 2011 Legislature.

Commissioners allotted 15 minutes for each candidate to answer a series of questions Board members asked each of the candidates. After the interviews were concluded, each Commissioner selected their top two candidates, and there was unanimous selection of Mr. Brower as their top choice. Throughout the morning’s interview process, Commissioners expressed their appreciation to each of the candidates for their willingness to serve during this very challenging time during our State’s history, as well as their gratitude for such an outstanding pool of candidates to choose from.
