Reno, NV…Sheriff Darin Balaam and Undersheriff Wayne Yarbrough are honored to meet WWII Veteran Sheldon Beigel and induct him as an Honorary Deputy in the Washoe County Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
Togglier Sheldon Beigel, a member of the Greatest Generation, is 97 years old. “Shel” flew 32 missions over hostile European territory in less than six months – including the Battle of the Bulge. He flew most of his combat tour aboard the B-17 Flying Fortress “HowSoon,” dropping various types of bombs. His service earned Beigel the French Legion of Honor medal in 2015.

As a Reno resident, Beigel is an ardent supporter of law enforcement. He has looked forward to becoming an Honorary Deputy… something Sheriff Balaam is delighted to carry through today.
