Wildland Fire Leads to Arrest on Legacy Trail

Truckee, CA….Tuesday night the Truckee Police Department and Truckee Fire Protection District were dispatched to a wildland fire on the Legacy Trail, west of the 267 Bypass Bridge. When units arrived, there was a 50 by 50ft fire burning between the Legacy Trail and the river. TFPD, with the assistance of an additional CAL FIRE engine, were quick to contain and halt any threat of the fire to the surrounding area and neighborhood. Division Chief Brock explained that they took additional time to ensure the fire was completely out.

A witness said that he saw someone leaving the area of the fire and had taken a photo of the suspect dragging a tent and carrying a guitar case away from the scene. Officer Beers immediately distributed the photograph to all of patrol staff and the suspect was located a short time later in Regional Park.

The suspect was cooperative and admitted to starting the fire to keep warm and cook his food when it had gotten out of control in the dry, dense area he was camping in. He was arrested for 452(C) PC Unlawfully causing a fire to forest land.
