Carson City, NV…Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak issued the following statement after meeting with the newly confirmed United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra. The Secretary met with Governor Sisolak and held a roundtable with State, local and elected leaders. Tuesday marked the anniversary of the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
“I am honored that Secretary Becerra chose to make his first official trip to the State of Nevada to hear about our ongoing immunization efforts and meet with leaders working day in and day out to provide and increase access to quality healthcare for residents in the Silver State.
The American Rescue Plan builds upon work in the Affordable Care Act – which was passed 11 years ago today – and Nevadans will benefit from expanded subsidies, lower premiums and access to applying for health insurance outside of the traditional Open Enrollment windows.
In Nevada, we are so lucky to have Nevada Health Link and Nevada Medicaid which have provided healthcare coverage to hundreds of thousands of Nevadans who would otherwise be without coverage to receive essential services. Due to their dedicated work, Nevada’s number of uninsured has decreased from a staggering 23 percent to 11 percent.
We know that the work continues and I thank Secretary Becerra for joining us in Nevada today.”
