Squaw Valley, CA….The Winter of 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the VIII Olympic Winter Games, hosted by Squaw Valley USA, and Tahoma, on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore, in 1960. The positive impact of the games – locally, regionally, and internationally – has been enjoyed ever since. Resorts, businesses, athletes, individuals and whole communities will join together around the region to celebrate the spirit and legacy of the 1960 Winter Games in North Lake Tahoe during the Olympic Heritage Celebration (January 8-17, 2010).

WHAT IS IT? The Olympic Heritage Celebration will be the inaugural program and official launch of the Squaw Valley Ski Museum, a proposed center for the celebration of snow sports and mountain culture. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the 1960 Winter Games and capture the excitement of the 2010 Olympic year, North Lake Tahoe will kick off a 10-day celebration of reenacted events, sporting competitions on snow and ice, and recognition of past and present Olympians. Events and programs for all ages will be held at venues at Squaw Valley USA, on the West Shore and around North Lake Tahoe from January 8-17, 2010.

Olympic Heritage Celebration events will include a Commemorative Torch Relay to Squaw Valley, Opening and Closing Celebrations, Mountain Venue Tours, Winter Sport Exhibitions and Races, a 1960 Retro Party and The Olympian Gala, a fundraiser for the Squaw Valley Ski Museum.
