Washoe County Seeks Input on Construction Grading Standards for the Unincorporated Areas

Washoe County is seeking public input on a possible revision to its Grading Standards (Washoe County Development Code Article 438) which is applicable in the unincorporated areas only of Washoe County. This portion of the County Code contains standards for construction grading of earth as well as thresholds for determining when grading should require special use permits.

Washoe County’s Community Development staff will be holding an open house from 5 to 7:30pm on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, in the main foyer of the Washoe County Administration Complex, Building A, located at the corner of 9th Street and Wells Avenue.

Washoe County is seeking public input on the following: • Whether development in the unincorporated areas of Washoe County should be required to preserve natural contours and aspects of natural hillsides and, if so, how? • How the Development Code Article 438 can be more easily understood and workable in the context of grading? • How illegal grading should be addressed?

This will be an open-forum and all ideas for improvement of the construction grading code are welcome. No final action will be taken at this event although county staff will take all input into consideration for their final recommendations to the Washoe County Commission.
