Turkey Trot Raises Thousands to Help the Homeless

South Lake Tahoe, CA…A weekend “Turkey Trot” raised more than $3,000 over the weekend, and all of the proceeds are going to help the homeless this holiday season. The City of South Lake Tahoe’s recreation department partnered with the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless to put the event on.

“We’re proud to be able to give back to an organization that does so much good,” said Lauren Thomaselli, Recreation Superintendent for the city. “For this event to be a first of it’s kind, it’s success really surpassed everyones expectations.”

Over 100 runners participated in the inaugural event. The event raised $3358.72. “The proceeds from this race will help keep homeless people in our area warm and indoors this winter,” Thomaselli said.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless is a California nonprofit formed by local residents working together to end homelessness on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. The ‘Warm Room’ is the core of their operations.
