Body of Missing Snowboarder Found in Tree Well

Alpine Meadows, CA…Placer County authorities have just completed a news conference where they delivered the sad news that the body of Shawnte Marie Willis, 25, of Tahoma, was found this morning in a tree well.

Search is over for a snowboarder who went out of bounds at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. Shawnte Marie Willis, 25, of Tahoma, had been missing since 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when she was last seen boarding off the backside of the Alpine Meadows. Several Search and Rescue Teams, volunteers and others searched for her.

For those of you who may not be snowsports enthusiasts a Tree Well is a void around the base of a tree that forms during the winter. These can be very dangerous and sometimes skiers or snowboarders can fall and be trapped in an inverted position. It is not known at this time if that is the case for Ms. Willis.

From all of us at Lakeside News our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends
