Effective December 1st, 2016 the United States Department of Labor (DOL) will implement new federal overtime rules. Under the new DOL rules, employees will have to earn $913 per week, which translates to $47,476 annually, to be properly classified as exempt from overtime pay. The new rule will give employers a choice to either increase their employees’ salaries to $47,476 yearly, pay salaried workers overtime, or limit their work to 40 hours in a week.

“Since this will impact much of the South Shore community, we want to ensure local area business are educated on the new federal rule. December 1st is just weeks away and businesses need to be ready to comply with the new rule,” said Emily Abernathy, Tahoe Chamber Events Director.

Be sure to bring your own “brown bag” lunch to the Tahoe Mountain Lab Conference Room. Tahoe Mountain Lab is located in South Lake Tahoe at 3079 Harrison Ave. The Lunch and Learn: New Federal Overtime Rule is open to all, members $10.00 and non-members $20.00.
