Chamber officials said the unanimous vote to endorse candidates Brooke Laine and Jason Collin came following a detailed vetting of all ten candidates by the Chamber’s Candidate Endorsement Committee, which was comprised of six community members, including one Chamber board director. The Board’s decision to endorse Laine and Collin was based on: 1) The candidate’s position on the Chamber’s adopted Tahoe Future: South Shore Community Vision 2020 and their willingness to assume a leadership role of behalf of the vision as compared to the general platform of other candidates in the race; 2) The position of the candidates related to their differences on the issues; and 3) History of community involvement and past voting records, when available.

“Our candidate review was rigorous and diligent,” said Board Chair Mike McLaughlin. Specifically, McLaughlin reported there were individual interviews with those candidates who made themselves available, performance rankings of the eight candidates who participated in the Chamber’s candidates forum on September 20, a review of the statement each candidate filed with the City Clerk’s office, and a review all of the written materials published by various local media channels, including question and answer articles. McLaughlin said the total rating for each candidate was based on the cumulative scoring of all the reviews.

“Brooke and Jason also stood out to the Chamber Board with their commitment to listen and bring a fresh energy and perspective to the challenges facing the City and our broader community,” said McLaughlin. “As part of their service, Council members represent the City on a variety of other agency boards where understanding and working relationships are equally essential.”
