Arrest Made in Theft of Solar Energy Equipment

Minden, Nevada – On Tuesday, May 20th,  2014, Officers arrested 40 year-old Geoffrey Earl Meudt of Reno (formerly a resident of Gardnerville) for Possession of Stolen Property, a felony. The arrest came as a result of a several-months long investigation into incidents of thefts of solar energy equipment.

From November 2013 to April 2014, five separate incidents of thefts of electrical producing solar panels and associated solar energy system components occurred in Douglas County. During the course of investigation into the thefts, DCSO Investigators were able to identify persons who had purchased solar panels and components from Geoffrey Meudt. The persons purchased the items from Meudt believing them to be lawfully resold by Meudt as a result of a solar energy upgrade project in Reno.

An inspection of the components purchased by these persons from Meudt revealed that the items were, in fact, some of the solar panels and system components stolen in the thefts that occurred in Douglas County.

Approximately $25,000.00 worth of solar panels and associated system components have been recovered thus far.

Investigation continues to identify and recover additional items.

Geoffrey Earl Meudt has been booked into the Douglas County Sheriff’s Minden Jail. His bail is set at $20,000.
