South Lake Tahoe, CA (May 2, 2014) – Police Chief Brian Uhler has promoted Officer Pierre Herring to the position of Sergeant at the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. This position became vacant with the retirement of Sergeant Brad Williams, as of Tuesday May 2nd, after his completion of a 27 year career with SLTPD.

Pierre began his career with SLTPD in 2002. As a 12 year veteran of our agency, Pierre has been a patrol officer, a field training officer, a detective and a highly valued member of our Crisis Negotiation Team. Pierre has had prior experience as an Officer in Charge, so he is already acquainted with highly responsible positions of authority. Pierre has earned certification through California’s Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigations with a specialty in domestic violence investigations. Pierre is pleased and eager to accept his new position as a Sergeant at the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

Under the general direction of an assigned Police Lieutenant, a Sergeant plans, directs, supervises and coordinates the activities of an assigned patrol shift as a Watch Commander and holds designated assignments within the Police Department, and participates as a member of the department’s management team effort. The Police Sergeant is the first full-time supervisory level within the Police Department. This class level recognizes supervisory positions that plan, assign, and evaluate the work of subordinates and are responsible for a major departmental work unit or section. Incumbents at this level typically participate in the more complex functions of the work unit, including administrative and technical duties, in addition to having direct supervisory responsibility over both sworn and non-sworn personnel.
