Felony Hit and Run Injures Teenage Cyclist

South Lake Tahoe, CA…During the evening of Monday, February 10th around 6:30pm, a 15 year old boy was pedaling his bicycle across the intersection of Washington Avenue with 3rd Street. The unidentified driver of what is thought possibly to be a light colored Subaru wagon was driving through the intersection and struck the teen. The victim fell from his bicycle and the suspect vehicle drove over the top of him. The suspect vehicle continued to drive away, traveling east on Washington Avenue. Another motorist stopped to render assistance to the boy, who was bleeding but still conscious. The motorist rendered aid to the boy. He first drove the boy and his bicycle to the teen’s home and then transported him to the hospital where the police were notified. The boy was transported to the Renown Medical Center in Reno for treatment of his injuries.

This collision occurred during hours of darkness. The intersection at Washington Avenue and Third Street has no street lights or marked crosswalks. It is unknown at this time whether the bicyclist was wearing a helmet as required by law. The investigation is continuing. Due to the nature and severity of the boy’s injuries requiring his transportation to Reno, initial responding officers were unable to obtain some of this preliminary information. The suspect driver is believed to be a white male of undetermined age. Anyone who may have information related to this matter is encouraged to call the South Lake Tahoe Police Department or the South Lake Tahoe Secret Witness Tip Line at 530-541-6800.
