Washoe County, NV….The human skull that was discovered in the Perry Canyon of Palomino Valley by a citizen working in the area and later recovered by Sheriff’s Office Detectives and Search and Rescue Personnel has been examined by the Washoe County Coroner’s Office. A comprehensive examination determined the human skull to be of Native American ancestry and considered being that of archeological significance as well.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspected human skull, which was discovered by a surveyor on October 30, 2010 in the Perry Canyon area of Palomino Valley.

Sheriff’s Office Deputies met with the surveyor on Saturday, October 30th and were able to establish GPS coordinates and determined the exact area where the alleged human skull was located. Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Sheriff’s Detectives, and a Deputy responded to the area on today and were able to locate the skull. The skull was confirmed to be a human skull. The skull was collected as evidence and booked into evidence. At this time, there is no information on how long the skull had been there and/or the origin of the skull.

The area was thoroughly searched and no other human skeletal remains were found. This is an ongoing investigation. Further details will be released as this investigation unfolds. Evidentiary examinations and evaluations may take several weeks. This case has been assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division.
