Auburn, CA…Funding for a multitude of projects in North Lake Tahoe was recently approved by the Board of Supervisors in
Auburn. The funding comes from the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT), which is a tax that is added to the cost
of any dwelling rented for less than 30 days. The tax funds generated in the North Lake Tahoe area are held in
the County Treasury for use in eastern Placer County and do not affect the county’s general fund.

Placer County works with the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association to provide transportation and
infrastructure project development, tourism marketing and visitor information services, using the TOT. All
infrastructure projects require the Board’s approval. The projects to be funded are:

 North Tahoe Public Art;
 Regional Transit System Branding;
 North Lake Tahoe Water Shuttle;
 Performing Arts Center Feasibility Studies; and
 Dollar Creek Shared Use Trail/SR 89 / Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project.

“I am proud that Placer County continues to reinvest the TOT revenues collected in the eastern end of the
county on projects that benefit the entire area,” said Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery whose 5th District
encompasses the eastern end of Placer County’s including 40 percent of the Lake Tahoe Basin. “If North Lake
Tahoe and the surrounding areas are to offer the activities and amenities that will allow us to continue to be
successful in attracting visitors, it’s crucial that we make these investments.”

The approved projects have the potential to lead to significant improvements to the tourism infrastructure at
North Lake Tahoe. Following is a brief description of each project:

North Tahoe Public Art: The funding will be for initial construction costs as part of the county’s Kings Beach
Commercial Core Improvement Project. Part of the funding will be for footings and utilities in the two
Project’s roundabouts and part will be used with private donations for the first public art installation, which is
expected next calendar year. The remaining funding will be used for installation of a second piece of art. The
North Tahoe Business Association’s Main Street Program initiated this project.

Regional Transit System Branding: Currently, there are multiple transit agencies that provide service in the
region, which has created brand clutter and confusion among riders. The branding project will devise a single, coordinated brand for the North Lake Tahoe-Truckee region transit systems, creating a clear and identifiable
brand that ties all systems together. An identifiable logo will be created and used on all transit vehicles, bus
stop signs, websites, schedules and other printed materials.

North Lake Tahoe Water Shuttle: This three-year pilot project will enter its third year next summer. The
funding requested will assist with the operation of the shuttle which links four points on the Lake Tahoe North
Shore, including Homewood, Tahoe City, Carnelian Bay and Tahoe Vista. It is envisioned that this short-trip
water shuttle system will ultimately link into the larger north shore-south shore ferry system, which is currently
being planned, but is not expected to be implemented for several years. The service will be analyzed after next
summer’s operating season to determine whether the shuttle will be continued.

Performing Arts Center Feasibility Studies: This funding is for an initial feasibility study and business plan
for cultural arts facilities in the region. Northstar’s owner has re-entered discussions about a regional
performing arts hall and amphitheater at that location. The effort would first complete a business/operational
plan so that financial feasibility could be assessed.

Dollar Creek Shared Use Trail/SR 89 Community Revitalization/Fanny Bridge Project: The funding will
provide a portion of the local match needed to access more than $25 million in federal grant dollars for two
critical projects in the Tahoe City area. Funding would go to design and construction of both the Dollar Creek
Shared Use Trail and the Fanny Bridge Replacement Project. The Dollar Creek Trail is a 2.2-mile extension of
an existing North Lake Tahoe bike trail system that will ultimate connect to the Regional Park in Tahoe Vista.
The Fanny Bridge project will make significant improvements to traffic circulation and bicycle and pedestrian
access south of Tahoe City. Fanny Bridge project alternatives are currently being analyzed. No matter the
alternative selected, the project will have a significant positive effect on circulation and economic development
in the area.
