San Francisco, CA…Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) paid property taxes totaling more than $158 million this week to the 49 counties in which it operates in Northern and Central California.

The payments are the first of two installments and represent all property taxes due for the period from July 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. PG&E will make a second, identical payment on April 10 to each of the counties for the second half of the 2013/14 tax year, which runs from January 1, 2014 through June 30, 2014.

“Local governments must address public safety, environmental protection, education and other needs with limited financial resources,” said Mark Caron, PG&E’s vice president of tax. “PG&E’s timely and substantial payments to local governments help them address those vital community services.”

The company’s tax payments to counties for tax year 2013/14 increased by more than $2 million over the previous year’s payments as a result of an increase in assessments on PG&E’s infrastructure investments to improve electric and gas safety, reliability and capacity.
