Sacramento – California’s gasoline consumption declined 0.2 percent, while diesel consumption increased 1.6 percent in the second quarter of 2013, according to fuel tax data released by George Runner, Second District Member of the California State Board of Equalization (BOE).

The BOE’s gasoline fuel tax report reveals Californians consumed 3.68 billion gallons of gasoline in the second quarter, a 0.2 percent decline from 3.69 billion gallons used in the second quarter of last year. The average price of gasoline was $4.04 per gallon in California during the second quarter, and nationally the average price of gasoline was $3.67, according to the Energy Information Administration. The BOE estimates statewide gasoline tax-related revenues for the second quarter of 2013 are $450 million in sales taxes and $1.326 billion in excise taxes.

California’s diesel fuel consumption increased 1.6 percent in the second quarter to 687 million gallons, compared to 676 million gallons during the second quarter of last year. In California, the average price of diesel fuel in the second quarter was $4.07 per gallon, and the nationwide average price of diesel fuel was $3.88. The BOE estimates statewide diesel fuel tax-related revenues for the second quarter of 2013 are $251 million in sales taxes and $79 million in excise tax.
