Soda Springs, CA…This morning at 6:55am the driver of the 24 year old Placerville man lost his life on I-80. He was driving his Ford F-250 eastbound on I-80 east of the Donner Pass Road overcrossing. For reasons unknown, he allowed the Ford to travel to the right and off the road. The Ford traveled down a steep embankment and collided with several large boulders. The pickup overturned and came to rest on it’s roof impacting another large boulder.

The 22 year old man also from Placerville who was the right front passenger sustained major injuries but was able to free himself from the vehicle and climbed back up the roadway where passing motorists saw him injured and called CHP to check on the subject. The driver was pinned in the passenger compartment and sustained fatal blunt force traumatic injuries. Alcohol and/or drugs are not considered to be a contributing factor at this time.
