Sacramento, CA…As Colorado grapples with the devastation wrought by recent torrential rains and flooding, the American Red Cross Capital Region is sending volunteers to help the ongoing relief efforts.

Monday morning saw the latest volunteer deployment, bringing the total of Capital Region volunteers aiding Colorado to eight. During their deployments, volunteers will provide a variety of services – from feeding and sheltering, mental health services, disaster assistance, logistics, and more – to those impacted by this disaster.

Capital Region volunteers are part of the large scale Red Cross response working around the clock to help people in Colorado by providing food, shelter, relief supplies and comfort to those affected by the devastating flooding.

More than 850 Red Crossers are deployed to the region where they have served more than 33,000 meals, handed out more than 46,000 relief items and provided as many as 4,700 health and mental health services.
Sunday night, more than 200 people stayed in seven Red Cross shelters across Colorado.
As people begin to return home, the Red Cross is distributing personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, lanterns, tents, sleeping bags, rakes, tarps, shovels, flashlights, gloves, coolers and insect repellant at Disaster Assistance Centers and from the 24 response trucks traveling throughout the affected area.
The Red Cross is also joining with several partner agencies to staff Disaster Assistance Centers across the affected areas. At these centers, survivors can receive a range of services. Red Cross caseworkers can help connect people with social service programs, fill out paperwork for assistance or insurance claims, provide counseling or help identify child care resources.
Access to some communities remains challenging, but as areas begin to re-open, the Red Cross will be there to support a recovery effort that will take weeks and months.
