American Fire 100 Percent Contained; Smoke Will Continue to Remain an Issue for Foothills

Foresthill, CA…With full containment of the American Fire, California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 will transition management of the fire to a local incident management team. Transfer of commandwill occur at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 2.

Today, crews will continue to patrol the fire area seeking out hotspots. Firefighters working in the interior of the fire are paying close attention to hazards including burned trees and holes in the ground caused by burned out stumps and root systems. Heavy equipment continues to be used to repair roads and fire lines constructed withdozers. A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team has started work identifying areas within the fire to be repaired prior to winterrains.

Closures:

French Meadow Reservoir and access to the Oxbow Middle Fork AmericanRafting Launch are open.

The following Forest Service Roads (FSR) along the American Fire area perimeter remain closed:

Deadwood Ridge Road (FSR 6149) from Foresthill Divide Road (FSR 0088)to the road’s end; Foresthill Divide Road (FSR 0088) from theintersection of Humbug Canyon Road (FSR 66) to Robinson Flat; and Flat Ravine Road (FSR 43) from Robinson Flat Campground to Mosquito RidgeRoad (FSR 96).

Robinson Flat Campground and Duncan Peak Lookout also remain closed.
