We had the pleasure of spending a few minutes speaking with Candidate for the State Senate Seat of Late Senator Dave Cox. He currently represents the Tahoe area residents, as a State Assemblyman for the 4th District. We spoke for a few minutes about his candidacy and plans for the District. Would-be voters have until Dec. 20 to register to vote in the contest between Democrat Ken Cooley of Rancho Cordova and Republican Ted Gaines of Granite Bay. Voters in this large sprawling district of 850,000 residents will be seeing voters guides in their mail soon. The special election to replace the late Sen. Dave Cox, R-Fair Oaks, will be held Jan. 4th.
Stretching from the Oregon border on the north, to Mammoth Lakes on the south, the 1st Senate District has approximately 850,000 residents. It encompasses Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Plumas and Sierra Counties, as well as portions of Nevada, Placer and Sacramento Counties.
It includes Lake Tahoe, the Plumas National Forest, the major ski resorts of California, and is home to many wineries throughout Amador, El Dorado and Calaveras Counties. The annual frog-jumping contest, made famous by Mark Twain, is held every year in this district.
