Truckee, CA – August 27, 2013: The Town of Truckee held a ground breaking ceremony for Phase 3B of the Truckee River Legacy Trail on Monday, August 26, 2013. With approximately 25 people in attendance, the ceremony celebrated the start of construction on this key trail segment. Phase 3B will connect Phase 3A (completed in 2010 and located east of the Riverview Sports Park) to Glenshire Drive on the west end of the Glenshire Subdivision.

The construction of this section of the Truckee River Legacy Trail has been made possible by a $2.9 million California River Parkways grant administered by the California Natural Resources Agency. The River Parkways Program Manger, Polly Escovedo, and Grants Administrator, Penny Harding, attended on behalf of the California Natural Resources Agency. Of note, the trail project received the highest award amount in this cycle of the River Parkways program, awards for which average $1 million per project.

Truckee Special Service Area #5 (Glenshire) funds, which are funds generated from special assessments on Glenshire residential properties, will also be used to fund the project construction.

Town of Truckee Mayor, Carolyn Wallace Dee, noted many key partners in the trail development including the Tahoe-Truckee Sanitation Agency and the U.S. Forest Service who own the land over which the trail travels. The Truckee Sanitary District also provided construction access through their property.

The Truckee Trails Foundation, who helped to fund a portion of the permitting for the project through grants, and the Our Truckee River Legacy Foundation were also recognized for being excellent trail advocates in the community. Other key contributors were identified:
